Metal Allegiance has announced an exceptionally stacked lineup for its annual NAMM-week performance, set for January 28, 2027 in Anaheim, California. The all-star metal collective will feature Metal Hall of Fame inductee Mike Portnoy on drums, joined by bassist David Ellefson, guitarists Alex Skolnick and Marty Friedman, with additional guest musicians from Opeth, Overkill, Armored Saint, and Mastodon.

The show brings together an unusually prominent combination of metal veterans and current stars for what has become a highly anticipated one-night event in the metal community. While the announced roster already represents decades of metal history, additional guests are still expected to be revealed.

Mike Portnoy's participation continues his long tradition of collaborative performances and supergroup projects. The drummer co-founded progressive metal pioneers Dream Theater in 1985, where he remained for 25 years, helping establish the band as one of the most influential acts in progressive metal history. His technical mastery and compositional contributions across Dream Theater's groundbreaking albums earned him recognition as one of metal's premier drummers.

Since departing Dream Theater, Portnoy has maintained an extraordinarily active career, performing and recording with numerous projects including Sons of Apollo, The Winery Dogs, and serving as a touring member for several legendary acts. His versatility across metal subgenres and his commitment to pushing the boundaries of heavy music made him a natural choice for induction into the Metal Hall of Fame, where he stands among the genre's most respected innovators.

Metal Allegiance's NAMM-week shows have become known for bringing together musicians who rarely share a stage, creating unique performances that celebrate metal's diverse community. The timing during the annual NAMM convention, when musicians from around the world gather in Southern California, allows for these rare collaborative opportunities.

With this lineup representing multiple generations and subgenres of heavy metal—from thrash to progressive to death metal—the January 28 show promises to be one of Metal Allegiance's most memorable performances yet.
